The Cave Candelabra

The Cave Candelabra, or Chandelier Cave is one of the most unique dive sites of Palau namely for its underwater caves. It is made up of five chambers interconnected to each other. The cave formation was formed by volcanic activity which pushed limestone reefs upward over centuries ago and the effect of the downpour of rainwater which percolated through the limestone eroding away the interior which formed the basis of the cave system. The Chandelier name is credited to the large stalactites and stalagmites that grew over time which resembled a dazzling display of chandeliers. They were originally open-air caves, but after the ice age, the water level rose and four of the cave chambers became submerged in water.  The site is a must-see and also known for the best scuba diving in the world.
