Video Sewer repair

Working for a road construction contractor that specializes in sanitary sewer and water pipelines has allowed me to see some things that we take for granted in a whole new light. Even just locating a damaged section of a two-inch diameter pipe gets interesting. In years past locating a damaged section would involve finding the general area and digging up large sections of dirt in an attempt to find a hole three inches long. Now there are video crews that do a form of telepresence; they can go to an access point and thread a camera with a 360 view down the pipe and locate the damage. Then the crew only has to dig a hole four feet across, potentially saving the city and its taxpayers thousands of dollars a year.
