The Crazy Computer Salesman Disease
Salesmen of all types seem to have certain demeanors and connotations. Perhaps the propogation of the stereotypes surrounding car salesmen started it all, but it seems to have spread to other industries, particularly the computer industry.
I don’t know what it is about people who sell computers. Where I live, there happen to be 3 or 4 fairly large computer stores that are not national chains. They all do advertising, and all of the computer salesmen involved in the advertising are crazy, relying on very gimmicky sales tactics, in-your-face promotion, and generally seem to be eccentric. Is it a disease? Or are they really hard-up to find more creative ways of differentiating themselves from the competition that they have to go to extremes to sell computers? I think they’re just crazy, personally.
