Functional Training Can Help Strength Athletes

Functional sports training may not rest easy with the traditional bodybuilding advice as it is an excellent form of training for athletes who have to perform on an unstable surface such as grass or artificial turf. It trains the muscles to react when put under various different strains and in different angles that ‘normal’ exercises such as weights, do not incorporate.Functional training teaches an athlete to control his or her body weight. The coach uses body weight as resistance and applies it in a way that makes sense to the athlete. It create an imbalance that the athlete has to counter, creating strength in all planes of movement.Functional training trains movement, rather than flat out strength or muscle size.
