There are many different uses for helmets. In this modern time, we think of helmets in regard to bicycles and motorcycles. In past times, times of war and battle, helmets were worn for the same reason-to protect heads and preserve life. In medieval times and for quite a number of centuries, helmets were one of the most important items in a soldier’s gear. Because of the types of weapons used, it was important to keep the head protected at all time. With the weight and cutting edge of swords, it would be quite easy to sustain a fatal blow or laceration to the head if they weren’t protected by helmets.
