No scalping for a Christchurch wedding venue
I’ve just been reading about the entrepreneurial Chinese in Shanghai. (As you read on, remember, this is not happening in Christchurch, New Zealand). This is what some people are doing. A couple approaches a leading wedding reception hall, pretend they are planning a wedding in, say, a year, and book the facility. The booking is genuine and legally binding, but the couple are acting. They have no intention to ever get married, but rather are going to look for a genuine couple who would like to use the reception venue for their (very real) wedding — and offer it to them at a price,. A hefty price. If the second couple of desperate they will pay the money and get the reception venue of their dreams. And the first couple will pocket a handsome profit. There are no laws against this, but the people of that dazzling city are starting to suggest there should be. A Christchurch wedding venue will not have this same, extra cost attached.
