Heart of the Home Dining

When my mother and I recently went shopping with my sister, for her bridal trousseau,  my mother entertained us with stories of old-fashioned bridal customs.  She talked about everything from weddings to charms which guaranteed marital happiness.  She also told us about the different styles of bridal lingerie, dating all the way back to great-grandmother’s time.  We were surprised to realize that the elegant women of that era spent so much time on filmy negligees and other provocative garments.  Mother assured us that lingerie for brides is a custom as old as men and women.  As we shopped and she help up skimpy little almost-there fashions, we had to laugh, trying to imagine our fussy, proper little grandmother wearing them.
