It’s not all that well advertised by quartz countertops and granite countertops manufacturers but using knives directly on your countertops can dull them pretty quickly.

Of course the manufacturers of quartz and granite will tell you that it is perfectly safe to use their countertop as a cutting board. And of course this is all true. Cutting directly on your granite or quartz countertop will not harm your countertop.

What they are not telling you is that since their materials are harder than you knived your knives will dull quickly. 

Use a cutting board when cutting on your granite or quartz countertops. Your knives will appreciate the little bit of extra pampering.
