Lorazepam as a useful premedication
The anxiolytic and sedative effects as well as it amnesic effects are most important factors to make lorezepam a useful premedication. It is administered before a general anaesthesia so that the amount of the anaesthetic agent may be reduced. And some times before the procedures of unpleasant awakening as in the endoscopies and dentistry so that the anxiety may be reduced. Oral dose of the lorazepam is given 20 minutes before the procedure starts whereas the intravenous lorazepam is given as late as ten minute before. The lorazepam is often used as a substitute to midazolam in some case as in palliative sedation.
