The Value of Social Media: It May Just Save Your Life
Many people misunderstand or neglect the value of social media. Social media has proven to be a valuable resource for those of us who use the Internet on a daily basis. Many businesses nowadays know and appreciate all of the hard work that social media does for them in terms of advertising and generating huge volumes of traffic to their web sites. However, in some extreme cases, social media may actually save your life. People are still shocked at the story of James Karl Buck, a graduate student from California who had used the popular social networking site, Twitter, to alert friends and fans that he had been arrested in Egypt. He credits his speedy release to the fact that he was able to send a single message across the ocean to people back in the United States. While this is one fairly extreme example, it doesn’t negate the fact that social media is extremely important in the lives of all the people it affects.
