Preventing Age discrimination
Age discrimination is illegal but employers may try to calculate your age using the dates you give. Most employers have an age range they consider to be ideal for a particular job, based on salary expectations, skill level, ability to supervise or be supervised, amount of life experience needed, and perhaps other criteria. Age discrimination is a pervasive part of American workers’ lives. In fact, since the end of the nineteenth century, bias and discrimination against older workers have been pervasive in the United States. Age discrimination is not uncommon. According to recent research published by Age Concern and the University of Kent, 29% of people report that they have suffered discrimination on grounds of age - more than report having experienced discrimination on any other ground.
