Why Do Countries Change Rules of the Road?
The rule of the road refers to which side of the road you are to drive on. In the United States, we drive on the right. In England, they drive on the left. You won’t find many left hand drive dealers in the UK! That sounds backward doesn’t it? However, it isn’t. If you drive on the left side of the road, generally your steering wheel is on the right and visa versa.
When nations change from one rule of the road to the other, it is most often because their neighboring country drives on that side of the road. Therefore, it is safer when crossing the borders.
